untitled self portrait - 2021

I'm nonbinary. I'm full of gender. My relationship with my body is complicated. It's deeply painful. It's constantly in flux. I feel immense joy from my body. It is liberation. I have to struggle against it. Fight it. I have to transcend my body. Move beyond it. Forget it and myself as a physical presence. This vessel is a peace offering, reconciliation with my body. Sculpted without a destination, it grows and sags naturally. And my hands are all over it, evidence in the clay, smeared and lumpy.
